All our Snorkel Spots are located with 15 minutes drive of Matakana Village and can include:

  • Goat Island Marine Reserve
  • Tāwharanui Marine Reserve
  • Jones Bay
  • Whangateau Mangroves

What’s Included:

Our Snorkel Junky Holiday Programs consist of 3 x 2 hour Snorkel Lessons over 3 days.

We’re all about small groups, big experiences and having fun safely, our kids snorkel programs are run with a conservative ratio of 4 kids to 1 instructor.

All the equipment your child will need for their lesson is included:

  • Mask, snorkel and fins
  • Full length wetsuit
  • A flotation devices if your kid lacks water confidence
  • Photos / videos from the lesson
  • Drinking water and extra sunscreen

Mini Marine Biologist Holiday Program Information:

Runs December, January and April

For kids ages 9 to 14

Calling for all you budding Marine Biologists!
Saltwater Eco have teamed up with the Marine Discovery Centre and Straw Free NZ to deliver a marine-tastic, science filled, environmentally friendly and completely unique holiday program.

As part of our Outdoor Classrooms Series, Mini Marine Bios is a 2 day program which gives your kids a hands on crash course in everything Marine Biology.

Topics covered include:

  • The importance of our oceans
  • Marine reserves vs non marine reserves
  • Rocky shore species
  • The issues surrounding marine pollution and ocean plastics

As part of the program we will be collecting scientific data for national and international citizen science projects.

Marine Marine Biologist Program consists of 2 x 3 hour sessions and includes:

  • 1 hour Guided Marine Discovery Centre experience
  • 2 x Interpretive Guided Snorkels (1 marine reserve and 1 non marine reserve comparison )
  • 2 x Rocky Shore Explore & Marine Metre Squared Survey
  • 1 x Ocean Plastic Session & Survey
